Music Therapy Internship
New Avenues to Independence offers our Music Therapy Interns a unique opportunity. Our Music Therapy Program is an approved clinical training program in music therapy by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). With the American Music Therapy Association’s stamp of approval, we are one of a select few pre-approved music therapy clinical training sites in the state of Ohio. Since 1994, we have had the honor of welcoming and training over 100 music therapy interns.
Our internship requirements are stringent, requiring students to show dedication and commitment. The New Avenues Music Therapy Internship is a six-month full-time on-site training program under our Internship Director. During the internship, our interns must follow our procedures and protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone.

What are the Benefits of Music Therapy?
Music enhances cognitive abilities by stimulating neuroplasticity and orchestrating positive neurological responses. Thus contributing to overall cognitive enhancement and emotional well-being.
When individuals listen to music, various cognitive processes are activated, such as attention, memory, and creative thinking. Neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to reorganize itself, is also positively influenced by music, as it can strengthen neural connections and promote new pathways.
Listening to music can modulate brain functions, affecting mood, motivation, and stress levels. These effects play a significant role in promoting brain health and fostering a resilient and adaptable neurological system.
