New Avenues is pleased to announce Bridget Bernard, RN as the new Clinical Services Director. Bridget graduated from Meridia Huron School of Nursing in 2000 and is a certified Delegated Nursing Trainer. During her nursing career, she worked in maternal infant and home care before settling in the DD field. Her most recent experience has been six years with a sister agency of New Avenues as Medical Coordinator and Delegated Nursing Trainer, thus she is a Qualified Developmental Disabilities Professional.

Bridget was born and raised in the Greater Cleveland area. She has two wonderful sons as well as a Yellow Lab.
Some of her favorite activities include swimming, camping and watching movies. She is an avid reader and enjoys cooking and coming up with new and exciting recipes.

The new Children’s Programs Director may be a familiar name and face to some of you. Cheryl General has worked for New Avenues since 2001 first as a teacher for Summer Camp and then as the Assistant Director for Summer Camp and Swim, Gym & More.

At the same time Cheryl worked for New Avenues, she was also a teacher for Madison Local Schools and taught GED classes through Auburn Career Center. When she retired in 2011, she began working for the Lake County Educational Service Center in their special needs preschool classrooms.

When the Children’s Programs Director position opened up, Cheryl knew that was what she wanted to do. She is thrilled to be working with the children, parents, and staff who are part of the New Avenues “family.”

Cheryl resides in Madison with her husband, Bob. They have three children (Michelle, Matt and Mike) and two grandchildren, Brodie (age 3 ½) and Brett (age 10 months).

Nicole Venen joined New Avenues in August as our new Recreation Coordinator. She is a recent graduate of Baldwin Wallace University with a Bachelor of Arts in English. During her four years at BW, she was involved in the campus community, holding leadership positions in various organizations. These experiences sparked a passion for event planning and working with people.

For the past two summers, she was a classroom aide at Summer Camp, and according to Nicole, she “absolutely loved it!” Nicole hopes to bring her positive energy and dedication to our Recreation program.
