Fall has come quickly at New Avenues, but not before everyone in our Day Services program was able to get outside and enjoy the summer.

In the final days of summer, we enjoyed the sun, riding bikes and having a cookout around the grounds of Main Campus. We have four one-person bikes and one two- person bike that we have enjoyed taking on the loop around Presser and Zeve Cottages. While some people know how to ride a bike, others learned this wonderful form of exercise and recreation. On the last Friday in September, we enjoyed a cookout with the staff working in the Administrative Building. Everyone gathered together to cook hot dogs and enjoy pasta salads, lemonade and fellowship.

In addition, participants of the Day Services program went to the zoo, park, movies and the 22nd annual Fishing Derby at Ledge Lake hosted by the American Family Ministry. At the fishing derby, attendees enjoyed a picnic lunch of BBQ chicken, hot dogs, chips and drinks. There was also an amazing DJ who took requests such as “YMCA.” After lunch we went fishing. Although nobody caught anything, nobody left empty handed. Each person returned home with a gift from the American Ministry team. Everyone had a blast, and they are already looking forward to the trip next year!

In addition to enjoying activities outside, we have been having a blast inside too! Every Friday there is something different to do. So far we have played games, sang karaoke, and made decorations for the Barn Dance with volunteers from Ernst & Young.
