New Avenues celebrates Direct Support Professionals

print
During the week of September 8th, New Avenues celebrated Direct Support Professional (DSP) Week. Direct Support Professionals matter - we at New Avenues know that. In fact, direct support professionals are more often than not "the face" of New Avenues for the individuals we serve, their families and our community.

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide long-term support and services that many individuals with disabilities rely on. The U.S. Senate even passed legislation recognizing the importance of Direct Support Professionals. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Ben Cardin (D-MD) sponsored Senate Resolution 208, which proclaims National Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week for 2013.

In celebration of their amazing work, we held a number of events, including:

· Visit by Beverly Charles from Congresswoman Fudge's office to Main Campus on Monday, September 9th

· Virtual Rally Day on Tuesday, September 10th

· Free Webinar for DSPs on Tuesday, September 10th

· A trip to Columbus for four of our DSPs - Peggy Davis, Valerie Eutsey, Danielle Fogler and Samantha  Jackson on Wednesday, September 11th

· DSP stories posted on our Facebook page throughout the week

· Hand-signed thank you notes from the New Avenues leadership team to our DSPs

· Jane Plank, our Human Resources Manager, cooked  a meal for the DSPs at our Clifton home and the eight men who reside there

We are grateful for our DSPs at New Avenues. Thank you for your hard work and dedication!
