In December 2014, David Petrucci, an 18-year-old young man, selected New Avenues to help him transition from a Residential Treatment facility into the community through the HOME Choice program.

With the help of Sharon Schultz, New Avenues Transition Coordinator, David is now living in an apartment in Elyria. David shared, “I thought I was never going to get on my feet after being discharged. I did not have any money. Then Ms. Schultz with the HOME Choice program gave me a wonderful chance to get back on my feet.”

In addition to accessing program funds to help furnish his apartment, David got his driver’s license and a fresh start! According to David, “Without this program, I would probably have been homeless and unable to make ends meet. This program is amazing, and I believe it is the best thing for a lot of people.”
Sharon was also able to access additional funding from the Ohio Department of Mental Health’s Recovery Requires a Community (RRAC) program.  Sharon noted that, “The challenges facing individuals with the lack of financial resources are many. It is nearly impossible to find safe, affordable housing for a young person without stable income. The RRAC program has changed the impossible. With the secured financial awards, it is now possible to obtain the basic needs for the individuals we serve. This program fosters and promotes a steadfast foundation to build new lives on.”
