DD Awareness Month 2016

Everybody has a story and they are all worth telling!

This year, in celebration of National Developmental Disabilities Month, we asked our folks,

This is Vickie.

Vickie is vivacious, artistic and friendly! She lives in the community with three other women with disabilities who receive support services to help them with daily living skills. Vickie also participates in our Day Services program, where she works as part of a team to sort and shred office paper, which is then recycled.
When she is not working, Vickie loves to crochet and makes beautiful hats, scarves and baby blankets! She also uses her time at Day Services to color in her special notebook and do word searches. She is crazy about dogs and takes a true interest in everyone she meets. And, she never forgets a birthday!
New Avenues Supported Living provides services determined by an individual’s needs and preferences. We currently serve more than 100 men and women throughout Northeast Ohio, assisting them to live successfully in the community.

This is Bill.

Bill has been a member of the New Avenues family since 1988. He currently resides with eight other gentlemen at our Edgerton Home in University Heights and goes to work every weekday morning at Buckeye Industries.
Bill has gained a reputation in the community as a talented artist and, most notably, was chosen to have his self-portrait displayed at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC in celebration of National Disability Month in 2010.
He was a member of the Special Olympics Basketball Team and participated with his teammates at the State Basketball competition last year! Bill loves baseball, coffee and thoughtful conversations. He is a great roommate, team member and friend! We are proud to work with him!
New Avenues has been providing residential services for more than 45 years, assisting the men and women whom we serve to live rich and joyful lives.

This is Alex.

Alex is six. His joie de vivre and his million kilowatt smile light up a whole building! Especially when there is popcorn! Alex participates in our Summer Camp and Swim, Gym & More programs at Broadmoor School in Mentor. His favorite activities are art, music, gym class and SWIMMING! He brings his positive energy to everything he encounters and is a joy to have at the programs. He has a ton of friends and he can’t wait to get to Camp every morning!
New Avenues has been providing these vital programs for children and their families for over 16 years, assisting these special children to learn, grow and prosper.

In celebration of the lives and stories of people like Alex, Vickie and Bill, won’t you please make a generous donation today?

Your tax-deductible donation of $35, $50, $100 or more will help them continue to create their fabulous stories!
