New Avenues to Independence, Inc. has developed a comprehensive and coordinated day program to provide services that are specialized to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities. The overall goals for the New Avenues’ Day Services Program are:

To assist each person to acquire, retain or improve his or her maximum level of development and functioning within a safe, comfortable, and pleasant environment
  • To provide each person with the instruction and encouragement needed to perform self-help, social, adaptive and pre-vocational skills as independently as possible.
These goals form the basis for individual and group programming and give direction to provide quality services for the program participants. Defined program areas are designed to meet individual needs, honor personal choices and achieve program goals.  They include an emphasis in the areas of life skills, sensory integration, and work activities. They are complemented by the provision of leisure/recreational activities, motor development, aquatics, art and music therapies.

New Avenues recognizes that each participant has different expectations in regard to what comprises “a good day,” and therefore strives to provide each individual with experiences that will enhance his/her ability to establish realistic personal goals and make good life choices. We strive to provide a variety of activities, materials and settings through positive programming and an array of options.  The emphasis of the service model is primarily in the development of the basic social and self-help skills that provide participants with constructive engagement.

Options include activities and programs in areas such as:
  • Art
  • Music
  • Reading
  • Computer skills
