Buckeye Industries is the name given to the Vocational Services programming provided by New Avenues to Independence, Inc.  The purpose of the program is to provide opportunities for adults with disabilities to develop life skills, pre-vocational and leisure/recreational pursuits, and engage in an array of activities designed to enhance their personal, social and community integration capabilities and interests.

The overall goals for Buckeye Industries are:

To assist each person to acquire, retain or improve his or her maximum level of vocational development and functioning.

To provide each person with the instruction and encouragement needed to perform self-help, social, adaptive and pre-vocational skills as independently as possible.

A continuum of services has been developed at Buckeye Industries to include program segments that are designed to accommodate a wide variety of functioning levels.  The continuum allows for an individual to enter, exit or re-enter program segments at any point depending upon the person's needs, their personal choice, and their individualized goals.  These program segments can be divided into services that are "facility-based" and those that are "community-based":

FACILITY-BASED - program segments include pre-vocational skill development, work activities, and/or employment for New Avenues; they are geared toward individuals whose disability is so challenging that they choose not to work in the community OR for individuals who want to learn work habits, attitudes, and behaviors in a more sheltered environment prior to their entry into the community.

COMMUNITY-BASED - program segments include work adjustment, supported employment, and/or competitive employment; they are geared toward individuals who believe they are ready to move on and out from the more sheltered facility-based programming OR for individuals who want to learn work habits, attitudes, and behaviors by working near or alongside other people who are already independently, competitively employed.

Our job at Buckeye Industries is to ensure the success of our program participants by providing hands-on teaching, prompting, and supports in a safe and comfortable environment through the use of individualized instruction and individual and group programming.

These services can be accessed by potential participants by directly telephoning the toll-free number of Buckeye Industries, by utilizing the New Avenues internet website, or by emailing cloehrke@newavenues.net.
