Revised: September 13, 2008.
New Avenues to Independence, Inc. has developed a comprehensive and coordinated program to provide services that are specialized to
the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.
The overall goals for the New Avenues Day Services Program are:
To
assist each person to acquire, retain or improve his or her maximum level of development and functioning within a safe, comfortable,
and pleasant environment; and
To provide each person with the instruction and encouragement needed to perform self-help, social,
adaptive and pre-vocational skills as independently as possible.
These goals form the basis for individual and group programming
and provide direction to providing quality services for the program participants. Defined program areas are designed to meet
individual needs, honor personal choice and achieve program goals. They include an emphasis in the areas of life skills, sensory
integration, and work activities and are complemented by the provision of leisure/recreational activities, motor development, aquatics,
art and music therapies.
New Avenues recognizes that each participant has different expectations in regard to what comprises
“a good day,” and therefore strives to provide each individual with experiences that will enhance his/her ability to establish realistic
personal goals and make good life choices. We aim to provide a variety in activities, materials and settings through positive programming
and an array of options. The emphasis of the service model is primarily in the development of the basic social and self-help
skills that provide participants with constructive engagement.
Options include various active and passive activities and programs
in areas such as:
Recognizing
that the success of the Day Services program is defined by its success in meeting the interests and needs of its participants, the
program will adhere to its Statement of Purpose in developing an evolving array of activities options: to provide opportunities for
adults with disabilities to develop life skills, pre-vocational and leisure/recreational pursuits, and engage in an array of activities
designed to enhance their personal, social and community integration capabilities and interests.
