Heisley Respite

In 2000 New Avenues, under contract with the Lake County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, began operating a licensed short term respite program for families who reside in Lake County.

This initiative is an effort to ensure that children and adults with disabilities who reside with their families have safe affordable respite services available. The focus of the program is to provide the families and individuals opportunities to facilitate continued family integrity by providing short periods of respite for parents and other care givers, as well as, a respite for the individual from their home or residential living arrangement. This is done through an outreach process in which Assessments of the individual are coordinated with county case management to assure appropriate services.

Heisley Respite provides activities and therapies to children and adults with disabilities in a respite situation.

At least 80 families in the Lake County communities are served by New Avenues through this program.

For additional information, contact Sharon Schultz at (216) 481-1909 or e-mail New Avenues at natilakesl@aol.com.
